I felt like it was time for another short story from Alistair MacLeod’s Island collection, and thought it would be nice to find one appropriate for summer. The sun had been under a cloud all day, and there had been brief showers; but suddenly the sun broke forth in all its southern splendour. The bright beams of the sun and the chirping of the birds quickly restored me to myself, and I rose with a languid spirit, yet wondering what events the day would bring forth.
